Discus Fish: King of the Aquarium.

 Discus fish belong to the family of Cichlidae and genus of Symphysodon. Sometimes discus is  referred to as pompadour fish. Because of their distinctive shape, behavior, bright colors, patterns and majestic beauty, discus are most popular in freshwater aquarium keeping and also called "King of the aquarium".  Discus are found in lowland Amazon river basin and Rio Negro. There are three distinct species under the genus. Blue, Red and green. The blue discus found in eastern Amazon basin, green discus found in western Amazon basin and red discus in Rio Negro area. Discus Fish In the wild, Discus can reach up to 6 inches in length, in captivity Discus can reach up to 9 inches long. Lifespan of a discus is 10 to 15 years in captivity. Angelfish: Most Recognized Freshwater Fish.

  Angel fish is from the family of Cichlidae and belongs to the genus of Pterophyllum. These fishes are originally from South America. Different types of these fishes are found in Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Brazil and Peru. These fishes are named after marine angelfish, one should not confuse freshwater angelfish and marine angelfish. Angelfish bodies are laterally compressed, round in shape and have elongated triangular dorsal and anal fins. Body shape of angelfish helps them to hide among roots and plants.  Angelfish Grown angelfish can have body length of 6 inch and height of 8 inch. In a clean environment and with minimal stress angelfish will have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years.  Similar to barbs , Danios are from the family of Cyprinidae. Danios are incredibly hardy and are typically surface orientated. They are active and there are several color variants, making them favorite fish for both the beginners and experts.  Danios are originally from Asia: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar. Most species grow less than 2" and some of the danios can grow up to 5".  Barbs also known as barbels belong to the family of Cyprinidae. These species were first named as Cyprinus Barbus and now called Barbel Barbus. Their common names - barbs, and barbels refer to the fact that most members of the genera have a pair of barbels on their mouth, which they can use to sense or locate food and prey. Some of the barbs are semi-aggressive fish when housed in the aquarium individually, so it is important to maintain each species in groups of six or more.
